Symptom Relief Without Medication or Surgery

How Chiropractors Can Help With Holistic, Natural Healing Without The Use Of Medication Or Surgery

Chiropractors go through an intensive period of study spanning nine years before they become fully certified to practice. Chiropractors have spent an excess of 10,000 hours studying such courses such as Human anatomy, pathology, embryology, nutrition, chiropractic technique as well as three semesters interacting with patients as an intern. After graduation, most proceed to start up a private practice. They practice traditional chiropractic by giving an adjustment to their patient’s spines.

Chiropractors help greatly with holistic, natural healing. A holistic chiropractor does not limit himself to adjusting spines as the traditional chiropractor does. He goes beyond that.  He treats subluxation just like the traditional chiropractor does, but goes ahead to investigate and find out the root cause of the subluxation as well as correcting it. Now the question goes, how can chiropractor’s help with holistic, natural healing?

We will use two cases: back and neck pain to solve this riddle. Neck and back pains are the most frequent cases treated by chiropractors. Not that they do not treat other cases, they do. But these two seem to be the most common complaints they get. Through manual manipulation, chiropractic care is a natural, holistic, therapy whose aim is to maintain a healthy nervous and musculoskeletal system to ensure total wellness.

Effectiveness: More studies on the effectiveness of chiropractic care is ongoing. Recent studies published in the Annals of Internal Medicine show that techniques such as spinal manipulative therapy performed by a chiropractor, when backed up with exercise, relieves neck pain much more than conventional medicine. Another study published in the Journal of Manipulative and Physiological Therapeutics reports that chiropractic care, alongside other integrated approaches to health care, results in a reduction in pharmaceutical costs by a value of 51.8 percent, and 43 percent fewer hospital admissions. If you are experiencing back pains, headaches, or pains in your neck and joints, visiting a chiropractor wouldn’t be out of place.

Chiropractors are best known for giving effective treatments to neck and back pain, plus headaches. If faced with such conditions, a medical doctor will most certainly prescribe analgesics, anti-inflammatory drugs or muscle relaxers. An orthopedic doctor might insist on a surgery, but a chiropractor will treat the problems using his hands, through spinal manipulation.

A pediatric and prenatal chiropractor, Nancy Elwartowski-Cooper, says that “Patients are tired of the drugs and want answers to what is causing their problems.” She obviously receives a lot of referrals from medical doctors.

Chiropractors cause the proper alignment of the musculoskeletal structure. They alter your body’s position and apply pressure to the misaligned points along the spine. When this is done, you’ll hear a popping noise similar to the sound you hear when you crack your knuckles. The noise results from a change in pressure in the joints as bubbles are released. Because they manually adjust your spine at particular pressure points, nerve energy is released and allowed to flow freely down your spine and all over the body.

According to chiropractor Brian Elwartowski, the brain communicates with other parts of the body via the spinal cord, and then through the nerves. If some nerves are twisted as they course through the spine, they won’t function as well as if they were straight. Accordingly, “Chiropractic care allows the nerves to work at their most optimum ability,” encouraging the body to heal at its optimum ability.

Treatment plan

Many chiropractors are more interested in caring for the total person. This ranges from cure to prevention of the ailment. All patients are examined, not only for the reason for which they came, but also to ascertain their overall health status. A treatment plan is developed by the chiropractor after diagnosis.

According to Keith Overland, chairman of the American Chiropractic Association, “this may include combinations of chiropractic manipulations, physical therapy and rehabilitative procedures for many musculoskeletal problems.”

Most chiropractors also provide ergonomic counseling, lifestyle counseling, nutrition advice and exercise recommendations. These major factors are essential for the successful management of chronic health conditions. Such holistic approaches, as practiced by chiropractors can help reduce the need for pain medication (which has the potential to be addictive) or invasive surgery.
